Mockup of the Funhouse54 project

Background

Funhouse54 is an association based in Baden known for long nights of heavy bass and atmospheric deep- and tech-house rhythms. In addition to hosting night-time events in Baden’s clubs, the association regularly organises open-air day dances during the summer months. Despite being relatively young, it already has a substantial membership and supports social causes through fundraising events once or twice a year.

As an active member, I took responsibility for the association’s digital presence. The goal was to present Funhouse54, its activities and its events professionally online, while also building a webshop where fans and loyal visitors could purchase merchandise.

Process

To represent the association appropriately, I researched websites from the nightlife, party promotion and event planning sectors. I noticed that many of them used dark themes, promoted their events prominently and showcased photography from previous events.

Guided by the Funhouse54 motto “Stay Juicy, Dance Hard” and its playful pineapple logo, I selected suitable typefaces, illustration styles and imagery. The aim was to bring the brand’s cheeky, upbeat and space-inspired party vibe to the website. I deliberately chose a dark theme to reflect the underground feel of rave culture and paired it with bold, high-contrast pink and yellow accents for buttons, links and selected headings.

I chose Space Grotesk for the headings to convey the party atmosphere and the brand’s wild, playful character. For the body copy, I selected DM Sans, a sans-serif typeface that pairs harmoniously with the headings while ensuring strong readability.

The illustration style was kept simple and minimalist, complemented by motifs from nightlife and party culture. This supported the written content visually without overwhelming visitors alongside the already vibrant colours. Only the mascot in the hero section was designed to be more eye-catching, creating a memorable visual anchor on the homepage and communicating the website’s atmosphere from the outset.

The shop was deliberately kept off the homepage because the association is primarily driven by its events and sells many merchandise items directly at them. I chose a clean product-page design in which each item is presented with a clear product image and a selection of real-life photographs.

The website was built with WordPress and Elementor Pro. I implemented the webshop using WooCommerce, connected the payment system through zahls.ch and integrated Brevo for newsletter distribution.
